How to Make a Man and a Nation Great!

“Desamante Matti kaadoyi, desamante manushuloyi” is a Telugu proverb which is well known to the people of Andhra Pradesh. And about the great visionary Swami Vivekananda, every Indian has a great respect.

Let me remind to many of you and unveil to some of you, what he has said about the course of making a man and in turn his nation great.

Three things are necessary to make every man great and every nation great.

1. Conviction of the powers of Goodness,

2. Absence of Jealousy and Suspicion,

3. Helping all those who are trying to be and do good.

The great secret is absence of jealousy. Be always ready to concede to the opinions of your brethren and try always to conciliate.

Living in the present.

Living in the  present moment   is not just a psychological trick; it is the essence   of spiritual life according to Hindu scriptures. The Rishis, the Bhagavad Gita, and even the Upanishads all emphasise this as the path to peace, clarity, and realisation of the Self. We must live in the present.  The past is dead, the future unborn. Only the present is real.  He who lives in the present lives in Reality.  In other words, living in the present means training your attention to rest on what’s happening here and now — your breath, sensations, surroundings, or activity — instead of being caught up in past regrets or future worries. Mindfulness is the most effective way to cultivate this awareness. Is death great and a boon to humans?

Death is indeed very great because it is something fearful, but before it is the culmination of life's journey, the doorway to something beyond what our eyes and senses can grasp.   We spend our whole life building relationships, wealth, reputations, and attachments.  Death dissolves all of them in a single moment.  No power, position, or possession can stop it. It humbles the ego, liberates us from worldly limitations, pushes us to seek higher truth, equalises all beings, and opens the doorway to eternity. It teaches us detachment and humility. When we realise that everything here is perishable, our hearts naturally seek what is eternal...God, Truth, or the Self. Biologically, death gives way to renewal.  Old generations pass, new ones come. Without death, there would be no growth, no evolution, no space for fresh life. Charity means voluntarily helping those in need as a humanitarian act by giving money, goods, etc., to the poor and needy either directly or through a Trust or Organization. Most forms of charity are concerned with providing basic necessities such as food, water, clothing, health care, shelter, education, etc., Charity  further means sharing what we have earned honestly and ethically with others. Varna and Caste System

Varna is the nature of an individual based on gunas(Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas) and activities in  which one is interested in a particular kind of job or occupation to earn a living, and Caste means a lineage of an individual about which job or profession his/her very early ancestors used or made to do as a family profession. The whole varna was made keeping in view the dharma that one had to follow.  Varna was never considered by birth if we go through the following instances of our great literature. In Srimad Bhagavad Gita Chapter IV Verse 13, Lord Krishna clearly states that the four Varnas are based on their work and their basic nature and not related to birth at all. "chātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛiṣhṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśhaḥ  tasya kartāram api māṁ viddhyakartāram avyayam" The four varnas have been created by Me through a classification of the gunas and activities. Krodha(Anger) m eans a  strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility.   Fear and sadness are primary emotions before one gets Anger. It is a  strong emotion we experience when we think someone has done wrong. Anger(Krodh) is an excessive mental turmoil on account of the obstacles in the gratification of some desire.   It is an unpleasant emotion that does more harm to the giver than to the receiver. It is one of the six bad vices viz., Kama(desire/passion), Krodha(Anger ), Lobha(greed), Moha(bondage), Mada(ego), and Mastsarya(jealousy).  Man acquires  Kama and Krodha by birth. These are inborn qualities and cannot be wiped off completely because they are necessary for every human being to eke out his livelihood,  but can be controlled to a  possible extent while leading a pious life.
